VISION TIMES: The Making of Finding Courage

In many ways, the documentary Finding Courage is an accidental film. Its director, Kay Rubacek from Swoop Films initially, never sought to make it a full-length feature.

Having just finished producing the award-winning Hard to Believe documentary — about forced organ harvesting in China — Kay was looking to make her directorial debut with a short 10-minute film.

Journal of Political Risk Reviews "Finding Courage"

“A hard-hitting documentary about the unimaginable repression under which people of faith suffer in China. The harrowing story follows a loving family as they risk everything to get undercover footage that will bring to the world the truth of their daughter's brutal torture and death in a Communist labor camp.”

Hard-Hitting Feature Documentary on China-US Relations Available Now for Media Review

New York: May 8, 2020. For Immediate Release

Due to widespread film festival cancellations and postponements, Swoop Films is inviting media, bloggers, and V.I.P.s to review the award-winning film, “Finding Courage” directly from the filmmakers.

“‘Finding Courage’ is a story about real people in America whose lives are being hurt by the decisions of the Chinese regime. With tense China-US relations due to the current pandemic, audiences want stories about China and how it is affecting our lives in the rest of the world,” says producer/director Kay Rubacek, who has first-hand experience of being locked in a Chinese prison cell, and is also available for an interview.

“Finding Courage” is 80 minutes long and in English (with few subtitles). It is narrated by the beautiful voice of Lea B. Olsen, former Big Ten basketball player and ESPN broadcaster for the WNBA. The film’s story follows former Chinese journalist, Yifei Wang, living in exile in the United States, who is desperate to reunite her broken family and get justice for the murder of her sister. However, her choices mean the difference between life and death for her family who are still in China.

The film includes rare interviews with former Chinese regime officials including a former director of a Chinese labor camp, a secret agent, and an official for China's propaganda department. All of the interviewees are risking their personal safety, and that of their family, by providing testimony in this film.

The film has won a Gold Remi Award from the Houston International Film Festival, and received official selection from Arizona Film Festival and Jersey Shore Film Festival, however many festivals are on hold due to pandemic restrictions.

The filmmakers are especially thankful to Grammy Award-winning engineer Adrian Morales-Demori who lead the film’s audio post at Heiga Studios, Bruce Aronson and Francis Galluccio (who has written songs for major artists including Jessica Simpson, and Celine Dion) who created the original score for the film, phenomenal singer Mika Hale, and Sterling Campbell (musician for David Bowie and B52’s) who produced the soon-to-be-released “Courage Is Found” theme song for the film.

Belgium: PBA Nursing students watch ‘Hard to Believe’

UC Leuven-Limburg in Leuven, Belgium, hosted a screening of the award-winning documentary, Hard To Believe. This event was part of their ‘International week 2019’. The audience consisted of PBA Nursing students, lecturers and their international colleagues.

Hard To Believe, produced by Swoop Films, is a documentary that examines the issue of forced live organ harvesting from Chinese prisoners of conscience, and the response—or lack of it—around the world.

Afterwards ETAC’s Benelux Manager, Elke Van den Brande, presented on further developments since the film. The China Tribunal was introduced and students were invited to spread the word and to join ETAC’s Student Movement.

One of the students, Anton Dolhain, gave his first reaction after watching the documentary.

“I can raise awareness, but the actual changes will be made by the politicians. They need to improve the law. They need to change it everywhere, otherwise it won’t stop.”

Due to its great success, the screening will be repeated two times during the upcoming 2020 edition of UC Leuven-Limburg’s international week.

A list created by "Nature"on the top ten most influential scientists of 2019 gave a nod to Wendy Rogers, a bioethicist at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia who has been investigating forced organ harvesting of prisoners of conscience in China. She cited our documentary "Hard To Believe" that she viewed at a conference in 2015 as one of the main catalysts that inspired her to engage in the issue beyond research into activism. Her research team found wide-ranging evidence of the Chinese Communist Party's atrocities in what they labeled in their investigations as "one of the world’s major bioethical scandals." Swoop Films Makes the News (June 2019 Newsletter)

Dear Friend,

You've heard about the allegations of forced organ harvesting in China through reports and via our documentary film "Hard To Believe.” We are relieved to give you an update that the Independent Tribunal Into Forced Organ Harvesting of Prisoners of Conscience in China, after 12 months of reviewing testimonies and thousands of pages of evidence, has come to its final verdict. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is to be held guilty for its crimes against humanity.

"Hard To Believe” Film Submitted as Evidence of the Chinese Communist Party’s $1billion Genocidal Industry of Forced Organ Harvesting

Our film “Hard To Believe” had been used as evidence against the Chinese Communist Party in its mass killing of prisoners of conscience. The tribunal’s final verdict was that China under the Chinese Communist Party was a “criminal state” and that mass killings of innocent civilians were taking place to sell their organs.

The verdict of the tribunal and its findings are hoped to be used to urge international organizations to take action.

Swoop Films Documents Historic International China Tribunal

The international, Independent China Tribunal investigated the forced organ harvesting of prisoners of conscience in mainland China.
